Images of Mathematicians on Postage StampsI know we've all been wondering where to find it, how to get it, where it is. You know what I'm talking about. Images of Isaac Newton on postage stamps of the world. Oh yes. And I've found that resource. No need to thank me. Just doing my duty.
Tech Support, by the book
A friend of mine sent me this today. I love it. A must visit for everyone who's ever been asked too many, too stupid computer questions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRjVeRbhtRU&mode=related&search
Concensus Life CoachingI find this extremely diverting. It's a site set up and run by Brown grad students that is intended to help people decide things in their lives through concensus votes. Also an interesting way to get a random opinion on anything. ANYTHING. And you can contribute to the fun by voting early (and often). It's communism of a sort.
This is why I don't use the internet to find dates.Sometimes while looking through people's signatures on forums you come accross a great link. This one came from a signature on the woot forums. It's pretty great. Though, does it make me a bad person for laughing at most of these?
The goat is on a pole[img_assist|nid=74|title=goat|desc=|link=|align=left|width=150|height=200]Institute for the Study of the Goat, the Pole, and their Relative Positions. (Where did I find this?, you might well ask. Do I normally search for images of goats on poles? It was linked in one of my favorite normal newspapers.)
StarLords Mashup[img_assist|nid=72|title=|desc=|link=|align=left|width=200|height=107] Over at misshapenfeatures.com, there's a freekin' hilarious mashup called StarLords. Where else can you see Yoda and Gandalf in a disco dance battle? Their site is pretty overwhelmed, so you can also get it from my local mirror.
Childhood BeliefsWhen I was young, I used to believe that I could fly. Well, actually I could just hover. It required intense concentration, and it varied between a few inches and a couple feet above the ground. Childhood is when we learn about the world. Being innocent and naive, we're bound to believe what we hear or get things wrong. The twisted logic of schoolyard whisperings becomes gospel, and our parents' bold lies about Santa and the stork leave a permanent mark on our minds. I recently found a site devoted to the collection of strange childhood beliefs. It's fascinating to read about what people believed about the world, life, reproduction, their bodies, and more. Here's a great example of one kid's take on The Pledge of Allegiance:
"Jesus Dress Up!" !!!You want to, no, you need to click that. Click it good. (Random informational tidbit--the link that I'm directing you toward is the second thing that comes up if you google "Jesus". Fanfrigintastic.)
