Dirty Red Commie

Last night I got to go to the Expo center for the Roller Derby and dance at halftime with eleven of my closest girls....  crazy huh?

A group of women in Portland started a roller derby league a year and a half ago - The Rose City Rollers. They've got four local teams and an all-star touring team to go against other leagues.

The Zoobombers did some derby during halftime, the Sprockettes helping and dancing during a break in the action.

Jonathan Maus came along and took some pictures.

i fall too often.

tumbling: down head over heels, ass over teakettle (as some would say)
bruising face and limbs, a network of tiny cuts from many impacts covering my skin

old scars remembering the fun.

i grin to myself as i succumb (oh so uncoordnated) to gravity  or what prefers to call itself as such.
it's a costume.  a disguise to hide the tears and the pain.

and when it's over i'll pull my body with its ancient hurts up off the floor
grab the railing so enticing, so convenient
