Stephenson's Diamond Age coming to TV

Neal Stephenson's novel The Diamond Age or A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer is coming to the small screen in the form of a six hour miniseries.  It's going to be produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov.  Apparently Stephenson will be adapting the novel himself, which is encouraging.  Diamond Age is my favorite Stephenson novel, so I really hope they do a great job.  I might have to get cable.

I keep hoping that a Snow

I keep hoping that a Snow Crash movie will come out. I loved the Diamond Age though. I think this'll be fun to watch.

I agree. A Snow Crash movie

I agree. A Snow Crash movie adaptation could be very cool.

Another reason to love

Another reason to love George Clooney. Yeay, George Clooney.

The Diamond Age was always my favorite, though I was surprised to find out that it won the Hugo Award in '96--I didn't think it was that mainstream.

Maybe someday they'll do a version of the Baroque Cycle....

I would love a good version

I would love a good version of the Baroque Cycle.  That'd make for a nice long series though.  I'd imagine it'd be about 3 years worth of weekly shows.

Heh, The Big U would make a nice trippy movie though.

The Baroque Cycle would be

The Baroque Cycle would be the great as a series. I don't think it would be all that long, really. Stephenson paints a very, very detailed picture in the Cycle, much of which wouldn't actually translate into time on-screen.

The Big U would be a kickass, surreal movie.

I didn't think The Diamond Age was that mainstream either. I bought all my copies in the Bargain Books section, and that's where I first discovered it. That was before I really kept an eye out for new works from Stephenson, though.

Yay Clooney indeed.

Can you imagine trying to

Can you imagine trying to cast the Baroque Cycle? It would be hard to find a Jack who could really be Jack and not a cheap knock off of Captin Jack Sparrow.
